REASON FOR BECOMING INVOLVED WITH ACE:
I have two philosophies: be with good souls and follow the energy. ACE attracts good souls and makes them better. Through ACE, I have made and continue to make life-long family. ACE’s focus on first-time students, acceleration, the affective, scalability and social justice is where the energy lies. I’m ecstatic that these areas also resonate with my passions.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
I began to understand responsibility, bio-feedback and psychology at a very young age. At age 12, I joined a cohort of teenagers who toured the west coast. I then led cohorts for the following four years. I never thought much of it; I just enjoyed starting things, thinking big, and helping others do what they, and I, wanted to do.

Ironically, my passion for formal teaching and learning began to accelerate shortly after formal schooling. Before entering the community college workforce, I worked for a private tutoring center, during which I tutored for over 1000 hours, became its first master tutor, developed entire curricula and pedagogies for six classes, and was integral to the company’s vision. I taught at Milpitas high school for one year, the Jose Valdez Summer Math Institute for three summers and San Jose State University for four semesters. In spring 2007, I joined Los Medanos College and was hired full-time the following semester. At LMC I have served as the Developmental Education Co-Chair and helped create the first post-secondary AVID program in the country. I currently co-chair our county’s Cal-PASS professional learning committee, am involved with supporting our local feeder high school, and am supporting a math class that I believe will revolutionize the math pipeline.

However, my biggest passion is ACE. I have brought ACE to our campus. I am helping shape new ACE curriculum to accelerate students through all of their basic skills requirements in one semester. I am involved in growing community through ACE’s Community of Practice.
