REASON FOR BECOMING INVOLVED WITH ACE
Not all students are fully prepared for the challenges that college brings to them. The opportunity to help students prepare for and excel in the collegiate setting is something that I feel very strongly about. If one has never had the opportunity to succeed, or has been given negative feedback about their ability, then they are more likely to fail. By helping students see their strengths and achievements we allow them to see themselves as successful individuals who have skills, abilities, experiences and knowledge to share with others.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Registered nurse since 1975; Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner since 1999; Doctorate in Nursing since 2009.
My experiences in nursing are varied: a pediatric nurse in a city clinic, a home health care nurse for the pediatric and geriatric population, a nurse in long term care, a rehabilitation nurse case manager for injured individuals, a surgeon’s nurse practitioner assistant, an employee health nurse practitioner and a nursing faculty member. Each of these experiences has lead me in a new direction for a period of time, but each provided me with experiences that I have found helpful in subsequent positions. Now, as a nursing faculty member, I find myself using all of my past experiences to help students better understand the concepts I am teaching.
