Faculty Experiential Learning Institute
REASON FOR BECOMING INVOLVED WITH ACE:
I cannot imagine more engaging or rewarding work than teaching in ACE. We teach students in our Foundation Course that each person has a life purpose, a special gift to offer the world. The task is to take up a life journey of discovery and growth that allows us to find our unique gifts, cultivate them, and strive to fulfill/manifest them.
Working in ACE is part of my journey of discovery and development. Having experienced violence and substance abuse throughout my youth, I lived a life of despair, danger, and undereducation. When I made a decision to earn a GED and attend community college, education and personal growth became the keys to my freedom.
Many ACE students have similar life experiences. I encourage them to stick with their education, to love themselves and care about their communities, to find their purpose so they can contribute their amazing gifts to the world. The personal growth that ACE students undergo is transformative on many levels—for themselves, their instructors, and their communities and the wider society.
